The committed DVGBC members that participate on the Educational Programs Committee organize a broad range of programming, from lunchtime brownbag sessions on specific environmental topics to in-depth study sessions for green building professionals studying to become LEED AP’s.
The mission of the Green Healthcare Circle is to:
Address the needs of hospitals and healthcare institutions and the professionals who are responsible for planning, designing, constructing and operating them with green and sustainable goals. Our mission statement is the foundation for the circle: Advance and promote sustainable and environmentally responsible development, design, construction and operations in order to enhance the environment for healing and working in the region’s healthcare institutions and facilities.
The circle is composed of two parts: a working committee of professionals in design, engineering, construction, consulting, and government with a strong interest and expertise in sustainable design, construction and operations (such as LEED projects); and an advisory council that reviews the working committee’s plans for educational events and activities to be sure they will address the needs of senior healthcare executives and decision makers.
This Committee meets on the second Monday of every month | One Penn Center, Suburban Station | 1617 JFK BLVD. Philadelphia, PA | Suite 1145 | 3:30 - 5:30 PM

The mission of the Green Residential Circle is to:
identify ways DVGBC can address and serve the needs of the residential sector, including homeowners, builders, and contractors to realtors, suppliers, designers and others in this underserved segment of the market.
In July 2006, the residential working group was launched by a small, committed group of DVGBC members. The group quickly coalesced and was joined by new members at every meeting. It was apparent that there were clear needs for education and connection, so the group began identifying initiatives to increase awareness around green residential buildings. Initiatives included:
The Green Residential Circle is a reflection of the growth and strength of this member-driven organization.

Green Schools Workgroup The Green Schools Workgroup has been a committee of the DVGBC since 2004. The original work of the committee was to support a DVGBC grant from the William Penn Foundation to work with the School District of Philadelphia to build LEED schools. In part, because of the work, the School District of Philadelphia now has 2 LEED Schools and 2 in design and construction. The current committee is composed of professionals from government, green cleaning, architecture and design, and product manufacturers. Because so many of the Delaware Valley school districts have existing infrastructure and are not building new, we are promoting the LEED for Existing Schools program of the US Green Building Council. This program uses the LEED Existing Building Operation and Maintenance program and customizes it to schools. A school district that signs a school up for the LEED for Existing Schools pilot will be able to certify the registered school and use the policies and procedures for purchasing, green cleaning, solid waste management, green and hardscapeing maintenance for all schools in their district. There are currently 4 districts in the Delaware Valley involved in the pilot, they are: School District of Philadelphia, Council Rock School District, West Chester School District and Cheltenham School District. Workgroup members are working with these pilots offering technical and organizational support (ie. training in ENERGY STAR, green cleaning assessments, green product specifications etc) to encourage successful application of LEED system. The workgroup also provides training and education to new districts considering LEED for Existing Schools.

1. Familiarize yourself with the following documents posted by Carolyn and Janet:
2. On March 15 we will discuss our strategy for providing input into the new Zoning Code as well as how we will review and share what we have read. Right now we need to build our collective understanding of how the zoning code as policy can influence Green Building in practice--this may mean using our committee's experiences, seeking input from developers and other architects, reading about best practices, and working with the ZCC and their consultants.
