Sustainable Design Competition 2011 Winners

2011 SUSTAINABLE DESIGN COMPETITION

The Delaware Valley Green Building Council (DVGBC) hosted its seventh annual sustainable design competition in 2011. The competition encourages college and university students and young professionals to partner around an applied learning experience that focuses on sustainable design.  This year, in partnership with the Philadelphia Prison System, the competition challenged participants to design a sustainable Green Jobs Training Facility.  Participants included students from Drexel University, Temple University, Florida A&M University, Harrisburg Area Community College, and Pennsylvania College of Technology.  Also, individual participants included young professionals within three years of graduation from national locations.

First Place:Daniel Chittick is a student at Drexel University. His advisor was David Ade.
 
 
Second Place:Michelle Lanney is a student at Temple University. Her advisor was Todd Woodward.
 
 
Third Place:Matthew Kliwinski is a student at Temple University. His advisor was Todd Woodward.
 
 
Honorable Mention:Elizabeth Lavelle is a young professional and an alum of Miami University. She is currently employed at the University of Michigan. Her advisor was Martin Mechtenberg.
 
 
People's Choice:Robert Hallock is a student at Drexel University. His advisor was Robert Nalls.

An awards ceremony for all participants was held on April 28, 2011, as part of the DVGBC’s ‘Best of Greenbuild’ event. Cash prizes were awarded up to $1,000 for first, second, and third place winners. In addition, the first place winner received a travel stipend to attend the 2011 Greenbuild International Conference and expo this October in Toronto, Canada.
